On left, an egg cell is held in place by suction, as a pipette approaches from the right. On the right, the pipette pierces its outer membrane. The egg will be fused with a somatic cell from the donor animal as part of the cloning process.

Start Licensing's licensees are on the cutting edge of research and product development in food production, medical applications, and many other fields.

History

Start Licensing was formed in 2005 as a joint venture between Exeter Life Sciences, Inc. and Geron Corporation. The creation of Start Licensing combined the full breadth of rights under the Roslin somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) technology for all animal cloning applications under one roof. ViaGen, Inc. acquired Start Licensing in August 2008.
